The bursary scheme covers a variety of student expenses such as accommodation, transport, living allowance, book allowance as well as an incidental/ personal care allowance.

However, according to the bursary scheme’s social media page it appears that there are qualifying students who are yet to receive their allowance for the current month of August.

In response to a student’s query relating to the delay, the bursary scheme has stated that allowances for August 2022 are currently being processed.

Hi @PhilaniMzizi thank you for tweeting to us. Please kindly note allowances are currently being processed. TQ

NSFAS is the government’s way of ensuring that there are minimal to no financial barriers to entry for disadvantaged students who wish to study at one of the country’s public universities or TVET colleges.

NSFAS is mandated by the Higher Education Department and is supported by government funding as well as local and international donations. NSFAS has come a long way over recent years, with millions of students attaining their tertiary qualifications through their student funding.
